Playing pocket pairs – just how good are they

Poker is a game that needs a lot of skill if you want to make series of winning splashes and do well for along time. The skill set can be earned with effort and regular practice but first imperative is to know various poker terminologies.

What is playing pocket pair? Sounds like a difficult terminology in itself; but in essence it is a fairly easy concept and quite useful too. Sometimes a hand seems good only to be fouled later. Good players understand the exact time when a good hand went bad. In such cases, they quickly lay down.

Mediocre players and novices stick to their hands long after they know that the spice of the hand is lost. Such pairs like KK or QQ or an AJ10 are known as pocket pairs. Often, just for the look of a pocket pair, as for example, QQ, they would hold the bet while something far more potent, like KJ, they would lay down in no time. In poker, you do not get bonuses and points for keeping pretty looking cards in your hands, the mathematical imperative needs to be taken care of first.

It is often seen that a good player with relatively weak cards tends to win against a feebler player with strong cards. The worst service that can be done to a weak player is to give him a strong starting hand. This way, he lingers on with the pocket pair that he gets in vain hope of making it big later on, long after the charge in the pair is completely lost and it has become vile. Last word- pocket pairs are good if they are being held by quality players.
